Louis Aimé Augustin Le Prince was a French inventor and the pioneer of cinematography, widely regarded as the "Father of Cinematography." Born in 1841 in Metz, France, Le Prince became interested in photography and motion picture technology at a young age. His innovative ideas and groundbreaking work laid the foundation for the birth of the modern film industry.


Le Prince's first experiments with motion pictures were conducted in the 1880s. He used a single-lensed camera to capture a series of still photographs, which were then played back in rapid succession to produce the illusion of motion. He was the first person to use a single camera to produce a motion picture and was also one of the first to use the concept of "frame rates," which determines the speed of the motion in the final film. He made several short films that captured the movement of people and objects, including "Roundhay Garden Scene," considered to be the world's first motion picture.


In 1888, Le Prince built a 16-lensed camera, known as the "Multiplying Camera," which allowed him to simultaneously record 16 separate images that could be spliced together to create a single motion picture. This innovative invention was ahead of its time and marked a significant milestone in the development of modern film technology. Le Prince also built a projector, known as the "Transmission de la Luce," which was used to play back the motion pictures he had recorded.

Plateau's research into optical illusions led him to create a device that transformed anamorphic images on a rotating disc into normal images with the help of a counter-rotating disk with four slits.
